Women's loafers and derbies: designed in Paris, made in Portugal, built to last
Women’s loafers are the most versatile shoes: they go with straight-leg pants at the office, jeans on the weekend, and a midi dress on sunny days. Derby shoes, with their open lacing, offer the same look in a more structured style. At Maison Toufet, each pair is designed in Paris and crafted in a workshop south of Porto, using leathers selected to develop a beautiful patina over the years.
Leather Loafers: It's All About the Material
The quality of a moccasin is first and foremost judged by its leather. The criteria for assessing the quality of a leather moccasin can be summed up in a few simple steps: examine the grain, bend the upper, and check the lining. Smooth calfskin offers a refined look, grained leather stands up to everyday wear, and suede has a softer feel. To keep a pair in good condition for a long time, a regular polishing routine is all it takes.
Penny, clasps, tassels: the details that make all the difference
The penny loafer, with its slit strap, remains the most understated style. Loafers with metal buckles add a metallic touch that instantly dresses up an outfit, while tasseled loafers maintain a lighter, more casual look. If you’re unsure about the terminology, our article “Loafers vs. Moccasins” explains the difference.
Black, brown, or burgundy: choosing your color
Black loafers go with everything, from a suit to raw denim. Brown loafers add warmth to light-colored outfits, while burgundy loafers add a touch of color without being too flashy. For a little extra height, heeled loafers offer the same comfort as flats but with a few centimeters more.
Derbies: Open-Lace-Up Style for Women
Women's derbies can be adjusted to fit the width of the foot thanks to their open lacing, which sets them apart from Oxfords (also known asRichelieu or Derby). They can be worn with cropped pants, straight-leg jeans, or even a dress.
Shoes built to last
Maison Toufet has been designing its styles in Paris since 2015. The leather comes from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries in Spain, Italy, and Portugal, and the soles are made with 30% recycled material. Discover Maison Toufet and its craftsmanship.
